Real installation examples (before and after)

These examples show typical homeowner and light-commercial scenarios using automatic door closers: exterior doors that slam in wind, interior doors that need quiet closing, and doors that would not latch until tuning was corrected. Each story includes a before-and-after photo set and a short “what we changed” checklist.

Example stories

Use these layouts as a template for showcasing your own customer installs with high-resolution photos. Each example includes before/after shots and the key configuration choices.

Example 1

Exterior entry door that slammed in wind

A medium-weight insulated door near a stairwell experienced sudden swings and hard closing. The fix focused on mounting stability and backcheck tuning, not just slowing the sweep speed.

after photo exterior door with door closer properly installed and tuned
After: controlled close and reliable latch

What changed

  • Re-mounted the arm shoe with better anchoring for the frame material.
  • Tuned backcheck to slow the opening range without a harsh stop.
  • Balanced sweep speed for smooth closing and set latch speed to finish reliably.

Example 2

Interior door that needed quiet, gentle closing

A hallway door near bedrooms needed smooth sweep speed and a soft latch phase. The closer choice prioritized adjustability and consistent performance rather than high power.

Before: fast close and bounce

After: smooth sweep and gentle latch

What changed

  • Slowed sweep speed to remove bounce and reduce noise.
  • Adjusted latch speed so the door latches without a snap shut.
  • Verified hinge friction and ensured the door did not rub the frame.

Example 3

Door closer installed but the door would not latch

The closer was installed neatly, but the final few degrees were too slow and weak to engage the latch. The solution combined latch speed tuning with strike alignment checks.

Before: stops short of latch
after photo door latching properly after adjustment
After: consistent latch engagement

What changed

  • Increased latch speed slightly to finish the last 10–15°.
  • Checked strike alignment and reduced friction at the latch.
  • Confirmed door was not rubbing the frame near the top corner.
